Classical Mat

Classical Mat is a systematic series of muscular exercises done on a mat. The only tool is body. As your trainer I will teach you a routine which follows the six fundamental principles of Joseph Pilates Method:

"Breathing is the first act of life and the last."  J.P.

  • You will find a great deal of instructional emphasis on the inhalations and exhalations in exercise instructions. Pilates continually emphasized that students use very full, deep breaths.

  • Centering represents the act of drawing your own mental and physical focus during each exercise to the core, or center, often called the “powerhouse’, of your body.

  • Concentration is paying close attention to the specifics and details of every Pilates exercise.

  • Control represents the concept that it is your mind that directs and manages each separate muscular movement.

  • Flow has been used from Pilates writings about Pilates exercise that should be done in a flowing manner, with goals of fluidity, elegance and grace.

  • Precision is imperative. A conscious awareness of precision during each exercise’s movement. This includes placement, alignment of each moving part of the body.

While learning these exercises you will be creating your own strength, endurance, flexibility and form. All beginner clients are guided through Classical beginner mat in the first few sessions. This is so that I may asses your strengths, weaknesses, injuries (if any), and your individual needs. Clients advance as they become familiar with the routine and exercises. In order to achieve the benefits of a changed body from the Pilates Method, it is best to commit to at least one or two workouts per week.

Magic Circle Madness

This is a session done with the Magic Circle. In each exercise you are continuously holding the circle either within the hands, thighs, knees or ankles. It has been called “Magic Circle Madness” as it can get pretty challenging and seem crazy, but definitely adds some fun to your workout.

Mat with Props

As clients advance, I like to add props to the workout. This includes weights, thera bands and the “Magic Circle”. Props enhance the exercises and make them further challenging. It’s a great way to change up the weekly workout while still remaining within the Classical Mat form.
